Universal Human rights Month Display

December is Universal Human Rights Month. As such, I decided to make a display to showcase some of the human rights material that we have in our collection. We have a lot of information on American Civil Rights and the end of the Apartheid era in South Africa.

To go along with the displayed material, I printed some information about Universal Human Rights month, laminated it, and placed it on the display for patrons to view. Additionally, I added a few “Balloon Images” that say “Celebrate Human Rights”. I have three total in three different languages: English, Russian, and Arabic. I feel that these languages reflect areas in our American culture, particularly in cultural relations, that could use improvement. As we move forward, we need to embrace and understand the cultures that seem “alien” to us instead of demonizing or totally avoiding them… but what do I know. I’m just a silly children’s librarian.
