Abstract Turkey Craft

I love this craft! The abstract turkeys come out hilariously awesome. Unlike most of my crafts, this one is just a bit more involved. We have to bust out the old hot glue gun for this one!

Here’s what you need:

  • Construction paper: Brown, white, black, orange, red
  • Colored Feathers
  • Cello tape (Scotch)
  • Glue sticks
  • Hot Glue Gun & appropriate glue

You will have to do a little bit of cutting prep work. Each Turkey gets:

  • 1 full sheet brown construction paper
  • 2 white eyes
  • 2 black pupils
  • 1 orange beak
  • 1 red gobble
  • 4 colored feathers
  • TIP: Make extra eyes, pupils, and beaks to use in the Brown Bag Owl Craft

The hardest part of this craft, by far, is rolling the brown paper into a cone to act as the turkey’s abstract body. The best approach, for me, was to roll the paper in a loose funnel, tape it in place, and cut the excess from the open side so that it can stand up straight (practice one before you start the program). Once your cones are taped and ready, start gluing on the body parts using a glue stick. First, glue on the white eyes. Next, glue on the black pupils. Then, glue on the beak and the gobble. As you can see from the pictures, the turkeys will come out looking a little different. That is half of the fun! Once everything is glued on, either you or another adult can help the children by using the hot glue gun to glue the feathers to the back of the turkey. Now you have a bunch of goofy little turkeys! Yay!

This craft goes great with:
