What can I say, I’m a sucker for fun and easy paper plate crafts! This aquarium craft requires minimal prep, which we all love, and offers kids the opportunity to work on multiple crafting skills!
Here’s what you need to make each:
- Paper plate
- Blue crayons / markers / paints (whichever works for you)
- Green pipe cleaners
- Dried beans
- Elmer’s glue
- Fish cutouts
- Crayons to color fish
To start, have the kids color the paper plate completely blue on the inside of the plate. Now for the fun part! Have the kids make a smallish pool of Elmer’s glue toward the bottom of the plate. Add a handful of beans to the glue and wiggle them until they lay flat. See the picture for reference. Pre-cut the green pipe cleaners into threes. The ends of these may be sharp, so warn the kids to be careful with the pipe-cleaners. Glue the pipe-cleaners so that they come out of the gravel (beans). Now the kids can cut out and decorate their fish and glue them anywhere on the blue! Make sure that they keep the aquariums flat until the beans dry.
